Spring 2014 Preview & Blog News

It certainly has been quite a while since I last posted on this blog, as one can tell. Unfortunately, a multitude of things came up in the real world that have caused me to fall behind in several anime and have prevented me from updating Faulty Reviews. However, now that things have settled down, I have had the time to catch up again with the winter anime and prepare a preview for the upcoming spring season. I’ll be posting “what I missed” bits for the various winter series I had been reviewing during the next couple of days. Until then, these are the shows that I am looking forward to this coming spring.

Isshuukan Friends – One Week Friends – 一週間フレンズ。

Studio: Brains Base | Genre: Romance | Premiere: 4/6

Premise: Kaori Fujimiya is always alone because all of her happy memories, including time spent with her friends, disappear every Monday. Deciding that he wants to be friends with her anyway, Yuuki Hase tries to get close to Kaori each week, wishing that she would one day call him “a friend.”

Studio Brains Base and romance is a good combination, and out of the three Brains Base series coming out this season – Isshuukan Friends, Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, and the otome game adaptation Kamigami no Asobi – Isshuukan Friends looks by far to be the most promising. Yeah, the premise sounds like the Hollywood film 50 First Dates, but having a week of relationship development instead of a day should allow for a better story, and Isshuukan Friends seems to be the sort of character story that actually focuses on just that – relationship development – as opposed to pure comedy or fanservice. I also find myself liking the art style, which is a bit reminiscent of this season’s Sakura Trick.

Winter 2014 Short Anime First Impressions

shortanime2

The new year brought with it a slew of “short” anime – series that have episode runtimes of around 4-8 minutes apiece. A lot of these shows tend to fly under the radar of most western anime fans. To give them a bit of the spotlight, I decided to watch the available episodes of all of this season’s short series, and present my thoughts on them. Without further adieu…

Anime Awards 2013 Pt. 1 – OPs & EDs

Welcome to the first annual Faulty Reviews Anime Awards! For these posts, I’ll be taking a look back at the year 2013 and the anime that aired throughout it. To be eligible for an award, a series must have had the majority of its episodes air in 2013 and must have finished airing in 2013. Each category will have three-spot podium, like the Olympics. In this first part, I will cover my favourite openings and endings of the year.

Winter 2014 Preview pt. 1

Winter 2014 shall be the inaugural anime season for Faulty Reviews, and to preface it, I’ll take a gander over the series that are to come. Most information from this list will be taken from AniChart, MAL, and Random Curiosity’s great preview post. Each show will be ranked out of 5, based on how excited I am for it. A score of 3 or above means that I will definitely be watching the series as it airs. Series that score 2 or lower are ones that I will probably skip until I read what other people think of their first few episodes.
